What is Azelaic Acid?

Azelaic acid is a skincare ingredient naturally found in grains like barley and wheat. Known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it’s ideal for treating acne and blemishes, redness, and uneven skin tone. It also helps reduce hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin production, making it an excellent choice for post-inflammatory marks and melasma. It is a multi-functional ingredient, being suitable for most skin types, including sensitive and redness-prone skin.

Benefits for Acne and Redness

Azelaic acid is known for calming inflammation, reducing redness, and targeting acne. Its ability to regulate keratinization prevents clogged pores, while its soothing properties make it an excellent option for conditions like rosacea and perioral dermatitis. Non-comedogenic and safe for pregnancy, it’s a versatile ingredient for clear, healthy skin.

How to Use Azelaic Acid

Azelaic acid can be used in both morning and evening routines. Apply it after cleansing and toning, but before thicker creams and oils. It pairs well with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, making it easy to combine with barrier-supporting moisturizers. If you are using stronger actives like retinol, exfoliating acids, or vitamin C, consider alternating their use or applying azelaic acid at a different time of day to minimize irritation. Start with 2–3 applications per week and gradually increase frequency as your skin adjusts. Always complete your routine with sunscreen in the morning, as sun protection is key to managing pigmentation and redness.

Our Products

In our collection you can find products with Azelaic Acid derivatives to target redness like Geek & Gorgeous aPAD Serum, as well as products with pure Azelaic Acid to target more persistent conditions like rosacea – for example Skintegra ROS/AC 10.
